DIY beauty recipes the Victorian way!
Hello! I’m delighted to be your guest today on “It’s a Charming Life”! My name is Anna Krusinski and I’m the owner of Willow & Birch Apothecary where I craft Victorian-inspired bath, beauty, and fragrances.
Did you know that during the Victorian era it was common for women to make some of their own beauty products? Why not take a cue from these bygone ladies and try your hand at crafting your own beauty goodies! Today I’m sharing my favorite fall beauty recipes which you can make with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen cupboard. It’s a perfectly charming way to spend a cozy autumn afternoon!
Autumn is my absolute favorite season! I just love the crisp air, the crunch of fallen leaves, and of course sweater weather! To celebrate autumn’s bounty, I invite you to treat yourself to a homemade pumpkin-packed face mask and body scrub!
Pumpkin is amazing for rejuvenating the skin, thanks to its alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and fruit enzymes that smooth and brighten the skin. And with an autumn chill in the air and firesides ablaze, it’s even more important to keep your skin hydrated and healthy!
These recipes are so fun and easy, and they make a great craft after a fun day of pumpkin picking and carving jack-o-lanterns!
For both recipes, you’ll need pureed pumpkin. To make your own, start by removing the rind of the pumpkin and cut the flesh into small pieces. Boil for 10 minutes and mash into a smooth paste, then allow the mixture to cool before using. Or, if you don’t have any pumpkins on hand you can use canned organic pureed pumpkin (just be sure to use pure pumpkin puree, without any added spices).
Now it’s time to get crafty! To get you in a cozy autumn mood, I’ve created these charming fall-themed printable recipes with step-by-step instructions. Enjoy!
If you have any questions or want to share your creations, you can find me on Facebook and Instagram at @wbapothecary. I’d love to hear from you! And for more beauty tips and inspiration from bygone eras, join my email newsletter here!
