Did you watch “Anne of Green Gables” growing up? You will be happy to know that Sullivan has made it possible for you to once again enjoy all the nostalgic period dramas as you remember them. Let’s meet at GazeboTV, the streaming service that is here to stay.
After Netflix’s success and unfortunate cancellation of “Anne with an E” we were longing to revisit nostalgic TV shows like the original “Anne of Green Gables” mini-series and the seven seasons long “Road to Avonlea”. We were delighted to find out that they are now available to stream via GazeboTV; a new solution that was much better than what we ever could have dreamed of (And GREAT NEWS, we have a discount code for you to use for the nostalgic Anne trilogy). But, first things first, let us start from the very beginning.
The woman that we can thank “Anne of Green Gables” and “Road to Avonlea” for.
Lucy Maud Montgomery created a fictional world on Prince Edward Island when she wrote “Anne of Green Gables” in 1908. We’re sure that many of you who love her stories would agree that it truly feels like a real place. A few years after Montgomery’s success with her stories about the fiery red-headed orphan Anne, she continued to write about the community of Avonlea in “The Story Girl” (1911) and “The Golden Road” (1913) which chronicles the King Family and the adventures of the young cousins and their friends on the island. L.M. Montgomery wrote in such a convincing way that it brought her landscapes to life. For that reason, I am convinced that maybe these locations are out there somewhere, hiding, waiting to be found. Perhaps on the corner of an old P.E.I. map that was folded in a way that kept them covered for the last 100 years. Thousands of fans must feel the same as they make their pilgrimage to visit the island for their own Green Gables experiences each year.
All the nostalgic period dramas in one place.
Thanks to Sullivan Entertainment, a Canadian production company, the beloved characters of Anne, Marilla, Matthew, and so many others were brought to life on television and blew a fresh wind through many people’s childhoods in the 80s and 90s. This year marks the 30th anniversary of “Road to Avonlea” and it is with such a delight that we have the opportunity to help celebrate GazeboTV’s streaming service.
We were kindly provided with the two first seasons of “Road to Avonlea” for review. What is so refreshing about GazeboTV is that you can rent or purchase what you’d like to have on-demand; no monthly subscription required and you can access it through many devices.
GazeboTV gives the heartwarming feels.
As we browsed through their catalog we noticed so many “new to us” titles. All with the same heartwarming feeling as “Road to Avonlea” and “Anne of Green Gables”. Our summer nights in the cottage will be filled with exploring, laughing, crying, and learning an uplifting life lesson as tends to happen every visit to Avonlea. Life lessons that are applicable even in our modern world where horse-drawn carriages have been replaced by polluting cars and an old-fashioned whistle from a teapot compete with endless phone notifications.
“Road to Avonlea” Our personal favorite!
When we ask ourselves, “Why do we like ‘Road to Avonlea’ so much?” The answer is easy. Besides the fact that there is no bad language, there is never a bad episode; the topics of each one of them are of a lighthearted caliber yet they touch you so deep that it lingers in the same way as a warm sip of tea does. We might be so bold to say that “Road to Avonlea” is like a handwritten letter saying “home is closer than it seems”. For us, being an international couple from Sweden and California, “Avonlea” has been the home that follows us whatever road we travel.
“There is another bend in the road after this. No one knows what will happen.” – L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Avonlea)
We hope that you also take the chance to discover the many wonderful titles of Sullivan Entertainment’s catalog on GazeboTV. It has truly been a joyful stroll down memory lane and we will definitely use their service on a regular basis as it has already become our go-to weekend comfort.

RTA was my absolute favourite TV show when I was growing up and it had a significant influence on me as a child (very much including on the history + vintage fashion loving fronts).
It still holds a treasured spot in my heart and I’m elated to know there’s now a service where it can be viewed anytime (for members). Thank you so much for sharing about Gazebo TV.
