as we welcome the heartwarming days of wintertime.
HEARTWARMING HOLIDAYS
🧤HEARTWARMING HOLIDAYS: This season is synonymous with spreading feelings of joy, hope, and love that come with the holidays. Heartwarming moments can simply be found in family time, sharing meals with a friend, having a board game day, or hosting a cozy movie night.

COZY CRAFTS
🧶COZY CRAFTS: A peaceful pastime during the long winter times can be taking up a new hobby or learning more about crafting. Handmade crafts like crochet, knitting, sewing, or painting can make for cozy evenings. DIY projects and homemade decorations like wreath-making or even ice lanterns can brighten your home.

SWEET TREATS
🍪SWEET TREATS: Baked goods from a local cafe or bakery are a delightful treat. Baking yourself is also so rewarding, it seems to taste even better when you know you made it yourself and it smells so good when it comes out of the oven. When paired with a warm drink this is called “fika” in Sweden. The purpose of a fika is not to eat as much sugar as possible but to have a break from the daily grind. Remember: As long as you have something warm in your cup it is considered your “Fika-time” so sip slow and enjoy every minute.

WINTER WONDERS
❄️WINTER WONDERS: It is easy to want to stay inside the whole winter, but so refreshing to get bundled up and take a nice walk in a winter wonderland. There is so much to explore if you just think about it, the animals leave tracks wherever they go and it is fun to see what animals live around you. Sledding, ice skating, and snowball fights are fun activities for a snow day. Even if it doesn’t get very cold or snowy where you live you can be creative visiting an ice rink or attend a winter festival of light.

CUP OF CHEER
☕CUP OF CHEER: A cup of something cozy always seems to taste best on the most chilly of days. Tea, coffee, or hot cocoa are a few of our favorite warm beverages. There’s also Swedish “Glögg” a mulled spice drink; don’t forget to say cheers or chin-chin when you raise a spirited glass!

COMFY CARE
🕯️COMFY CARE: Take the time to take care of yourself and others this season. Our bodies need a bit of hibernation so give in to this time to rest and recharge. Have a cozy pajama party or spa evening and perhaps even go screen-free for the day. Getting into a wellness routine of journalling, yoga, or meditation is a wonderful way to start the new year. Give back to your community by volunteering or donating your time or resources as you can. Check-in on loved ones who might be struggling mentally or physically during the cold winter days.

HYGGE HOME
🔥HYGGE HOME: The Scandinavian concept of Hygge is about finding contentment in small mindful moments and creating a cozy atmosphere in your living space that warms your heart through the long days of winter. Brightening your home decor with candles, lanterns, and twinkle lights makes it cozy and bright, natural decor is wonderful too. Winter is also a wonderful time to simplify your life and clear out the clutter in your home. A spicey simmer pot is a lovely way to bring cozy scents into your house as well. Playing peaceful music in the background, and if you are fortunate to have a fireplace, it is definitely Hygge to curl up in front of it with a good book.

MAGICAL MOMENTS
📚MAGICAL MOMENTS: Though winter can be long and cold, it is undeniably magical. We love to lean into the fantasy of this season by curling up under a blanket with a favorite playlist on and reading an enchanting story or even writing our own. This season is so peaceful that it allows for more creativity and wonder if you take the time to slow down and notice it. Live in the moment by watching the way the moonlight lights up the snow, how a candlelight flickers, and how everything goes calm before a snowfall.

PEN PALS
💌PEN PALS: Take a chance to write a pen pal. It does not only have to be Christmas cards during this season. A handwritten letter or a postcard does not only have to say “Merry Christmas”, but “Hello my friend, how do you do?” just to let them know you’re thinking of them and wishing them well. It’s so nice to hear from faraway friends the old-fashioned way and to read their handwriting feels like the next best thing to being together in person. It just feels wonderful to let them know you’re thinking of them and wishing them well by taking pen to paper and exchanging letters.
Get seasonal Greeting Cards for the whole year at THE WOODLAND LIBRARY (They all come with a little sweet poem.) and there are other cozy things there as well.
SHOP SMALL
🎁SHOP SMALL: Shopping local and small means you can find beautiful handmade items made with love. Even thrifted or vintage treasures make great gifts that hold a story. Small business depends on us especially during the holidays. It’s a win-win situation to shop small because you can find unique presents for yourself or others.
A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE SMALL SHOPS:
THE WOODLAND LIBRARY – Prints, Bookmarks, Postcards, of the book-inspired sort.

We hope you got some cozy ideas and of course, we’d love to hear about your favorite winter festivities and traditions wherever you live. We hope you’ll create comforting environments and memories that will warm your heart throughout the rest of the year.

Enchantingly lovely – and ever so cozy – list of winter activities. Winter walks, self-care, decorating, reading, and sending snail mail are topping my own list this year – along with as much seasonal crafting as I can possibly squeeze in before the New Year.
