I grew up on the Frosty short film narrated by Jimmy Durante and it was always a a joy to relive the fairytale of the magical snowman. I could never have believed that one day this California girl would be living in New York and be living down the road from the town that inspired the song!
It was fun to find out that Gene Autry the “singing cowboy” was the first to record the song after his hit “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” in 1949. He was looking for another Christmas hit and so was born “Frosty The Snowman” in 1950. It wasn’t until 1969 that it became the short film TV special so many children have grown up watching.
Seeing Frosty go “thumpetty thump thump” all over the village of Armonk was a childhood Christmas dream come true! It struck me that Frosty’s story is indeed a tale of magic and believing wherever you may find it, even in a silk hat.
