Building a vintage summer wardrobe that is sustainable for many years to come. Making fashion more mindful.
Hello dearies! We are ever taking strides to make our charming life more mindful and sustainable. We’ve made some progress to be more green at the cottage: but when it comes to our wardrobe we realized that it was getting over crowded with pieces we aren’t 100% in love with and realized we need to make a change. For various reasons like health problems/weight gain/loss, being homeless for a time, and building up our credit; we have ended up with some clothes that are what some might consider “fast fashion”.
Slowly we’ve been trying to go through season by season and intentionally go about creating a wardrobe that we love and that flows together. We live very tiny, but wouldn’t call us minimalist; more like “modified minimalists” who enjoy fashion but seek to build staple pieces to last for many years to come. We’ve come to a point that this spring/summer we cleared out a LOT of pieces we’d been holding onto but are ready to take the step and invest in classic pieces.
I (Lindsay) thought it’d be a great example to take my summer wardrobe inspiration for Jonas & I and share with you. Using vintage photos for inspiration and linking to modern day small businesses and reproduction companies we have and hope to invest in.
You don’t need many outfits to create a nice vintage summer wardrobe. Even a few odd pieces can come with endless mix and match opportunities.
Our overall “summer aesthetic” is a mix of things that some might find odd, but as you may know if you’ve been following us for a while, that we love trying to blend our love of vintage and fairytale elements together to create something unique. You can do the same for yourself! Just think outside the box and look to Pinterest for inspiration.
CLASSIC VINTAGE SUMMER LOOK
Our go-to summer look is an all around vintage look inspired by classic cut dresses and pinafores for Lindsay and sensible look for Jonas.
FOLK FAIRYTALE
In the 1940s, a peasant look for summertime was very popular. Darling little puff sleeve cotton blouses paired with patio skirts are a huge inspiration for my summer style that go so well with either a Southwestern flair or European depending on how you style it.
Another favorite look I adore is the European folk costumes, especially those from Austria (think Sound of Music). They have such a timeless look but also work for a hobbit inspired look, great for renaissance faires!
Vintage viking is something I came up with this summer as we prepared for our trip to Sweden. I didn’t make as much progress as I would have liked but look forward to investing in some linen handmade garments like a medieval inspired tunic lightweight that’s lightweight for midsummer.
PRAIRIE/WESTERN
The prairie look spans so many different eras from 1800s to 70s and 90s Victorian revival. Makers like Gunne Sax brought influences from the old west and gave them a modern bohemian twist. I also love the western/farm girl spin you can put on it depending on how you style it.
SUMMER GOTH
Who says you can’t be spooky and summery? Black and striped looks still speak to me even when it’s hot out.
Well dearies, what do you think of my assortment of summer style? What are you influences for the season? Would you like to see an autumn inspiration post as well? Hope you got some fun ideas from this post!
Bye For Now,

Thanks so much for that feedback my friend, I knew you’d understand! I guess it can only flow together in a way that I could do?! It’s funny to think how that works!
