Hello dearies! Are you an Outlander fan? I adore the sweeping scenes of the misty moors in the Highlands and vintage styled tartan.
Through my Scottish heritage, I have always found myself drawn to wearing tartan in March, when the world is stuck in limbo between winter and spring. The earth is a muddy brown but waking to the greens of spring.
Sing me a song of a lass that is gone, say, could that lass be I?
Tips on how to style your tartan with your personal vintage style.
Tartan is a wonderful pattern but can be a bit of a tricky pattern to style. It isn’t just for Christmas either and here’s a few styling tips I’ve come by in wearing plaid long after the holidays.
- Pick one tartan piece as the focus: A tartan shawl/scarf on top or a skirt on the bottom
- Tie the color in with accessories: My favorite way to do this is with a beret with the same earthy colors that reflect the tartan design. Nice and warm too!
- Play with textures: Wearing a knit shawl just lends itself so well with the feeling of tartan or perhaps a cape to really go with the fairy tale feeling.
Thrifting is my favorite way to find tartan pieces, they are quiet plentiful in the skirt sections usually. But if you’re looking online some of my favorite vintage reproduction shops to look at are: Emmy Design Sweden, Vivien of Holloway, Hell Bunny, and Unique Vintage.
Dearies, hope you get some inspiration from these Outlander inspired outfits and how you can wear plaid/tartan through autumn, winter, and even early spring! These looks aren’t meant to be recreations of Claire’s but my own interpretation of Celtic fashion from my mostly thrifted vintage style wardrobe. Perhaps I’ll get Jonas in a kilt next? Would love to know which outfit my fellow Bygone Gals like best?
Bye For Now,

I have recently finished outlanders, and I am love with Claire and Jamie’s Character and their love story. The show has its charm. But Claire fraser was the heart of the show.
It is a great show, thanks for your comment! 🙂
