“If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.” – Frances Hodgson Burnett
Dear Bygone Gals,
Welcome to my secret garden, I invite you to join me for a stroll through the flowers on a Sunday afternoon. It’s my favorite time in the garden; the hydrangeas are in bloom and the monarch butterflies are stopping by on their way down south.
August is coming to an end and there’s a change in the sunlight that says summer will soon be fading into fall. It’s almost hard to remember what it looked like before everything turned green. I remember so clearly after this long winter we had, how I longed for a single bud; and now look how lush it has been. It’s a miracle I hope not to take for granted!
What dress am I wearing you say? Funny you should ask! This lovely 1950s silhouette was kindly sent to me by Lady V London for review, all opinions are my own. Can you believe the charming novelty print is called “secret garden” complete with little butterflies and bluebirds flitting around the flowers.
I adore the material of this frock, a little stretch and shine. It came with a matching light blue belt, secured with belt loops sewn into the dress to keep it nicely in place at the small of your waist which gives a very flattering figure.
Might I add, this “Hepburn” dress is one of their best sellers and I can easily see why, it’s also the best for spinning! This is my first dress from Lady Vintage but I’m already in love with their lovely designs made in England.

Speaking of which, when they contacted me I was in the middle of reading “The Secret Garden” for the first time, and my head was full of day dreams of the English countryside, old manors, and overgrown gardens.
I thrifted this beautiful little edition (but you can get the same one HERE) and it’s been a lovely companion to me as I read this children’s story for the first time which has quickly become a most beloved story. I can see why it’s been cherished by the young of heart for all the generations since it was first published in 1911.
The truths and inspiration are still as important then as today. My favorite quotes come from a chapter called “Magic” when the 3 children don’t know how to describe the spring time or the amazing transformations happening to them as well. In fact, let me read to you my favorite quotes on our Charming YouTube channel:
So I ask you dearies: “Mary, Mary, quite contrary how does your garden grow?” Are you thinking nice thoughts and believing in “magic”? It’s something I continually have to remind myself of when the dark thunder clouds come rolling in. But it’s only a summer shower that will make your life more lush and radiant than ever. Thanks for taking this stroll with me through the secret garden.
Bye For Now,
-Lindsay Dianne

Sweet story. We all hope for a little magic in our lives. The garden was an excellent spot for your story and you look so nice in the pretty floral dress. I like the floral on the dark blue background.
Thanks so much dearie, yes I agree the dark background of the dress is so nice. Hoping you feel some magic in your day today! Xx
I have read it. I was a grown up too the first time I read it and I loved it. Some years ago I gave an illustrated version to my daughter and we read it together. She loves it and has read it several times by herself. That dress is lovely. I have a coworker that owns many dresses from Lady V and I am quite tempted to order one for myself.
I can highly recommend Lady V! SO sweet your daughter loves her illustrated book! Thanks for stopping by Charming Life today, dearie! Xx
