3 RETRO PATRIOTIC OUTFITS | Vintage Summer Lookbook

Dear Bygone Gals,

Lindsay Dianne here! Summertime fashion for me always feels “vintage patriotic” but maybe not in the way you’d expect. I love mixing red, white, & blues but not IN YOUR FACE and of course with some pops of yellow (since Jonas & I love mixing both our American & Swedish colors for our summer decor at the cottage).

This is my first vintage lookbook on “It’s A Charming Life” rather than “The Bygone Gal” and it feels so wonderful to be combining fashion in the charming life and having it all in one place going forward. I do so hope my “bygone gals” will enjoy a fresh lookbook, just in time for summer!

LOOK ONE | Summer Picnic

The first look made it’s debut on Memorial Day which always feels like the first day of summer, even if it’s not the official one! Over night, stars & striped bunting appears across all the historic buildings in our area of the Hudson Valley, it’s so quaint! I tried to mimic that a little in this outfit with my red, white & blue silk scarf tied round my neck and peeking out behind my hair, almost as if I’m wearing some bunting myself!

To kick off summer, Jonas & I went for a picnic at our favorite park which was covered in white blossoms, which matched so well with my new skirt that Lindy Bop was lovely enough to send my way! It doesn’t feel like summer until I put some gingham on my body but this is my first yellow one, and I love the little flower details. Topped with a straw hat, picnic blanket, & basket and we’re ready for some fun in the sun!

LOOK TWO | Garden Walk

With this gorgeous warm weather, Jonas & I have been enjoying lovely Sunday afternoons with “Tea For Two” in the garden, taking life slow and enjoying a quiet moment. Then sometimes we’ll go for a leisurely stroll at our local parks and take the time to admire every single blossom.

Debuting my first real vintage hat I was lucky enough to thrift for $1 at a church rummage sale!

I based this outfit around this lovely novelty print skirt from Lindy Bop who’s pattern was designed after traditional blue & white English porcelain. So pretty much, as close to wearing a cute little tea cup as possible!

LOOK THREE | Sun Showers

One of my favorite things about the summertime is thunderstorms, which may sound odd to some, but growing up in California it wasn’t something that happened so often! Now after living in Sweden & New York, I’ve come to love waking up to thunder claps; but most of all that peace that comes after the storm. That time when it “sun showers” as Annete Hanshaw sang in 1927:

"In the shelter of , sunny skies above, we will live and love, it was only a sun shower"

Thank goodness, I thrifted this darling umbrella for next to nothing recently!

Doll Me Up was lovely enough to send me the top & skirt which I ended up styling much differently than planned (thanks to the 4th of July humidity)! I put my hair in milk maid braids topped with a flower crown I made several years ago and ended up feeling like a little flower fairy with the roses on my skirt, to boot!

So my dear Bygone Gals, I hope you got some inspiration from these 3 looks. I would love to know what you have planned for summer & fashion! Jonas & I are wishing you a lovely old-fashioned summertime filled with picnics, garden walks, and sun showers!

Bye For Now,
Lindsay Dianne
